Alan Boiston of VVV Gamer has picked on something really interesting in his newest news video (see below) as two major racing game franchises are due to make a return this year.According to MCV magazine, Project Gotham Racing 5 is planned to be shown off at this years’ E3 expo. The first-ever Project Gotham Racing was a launch title for the original Xbox back in 2001 and with the third Xbox to make its debut at E3 as well, a new PGR title would be the perfect fit.Following the release of Project Gotham Racing 4 in 2007, the franchise was discontinued with the exception of one mobile title as the developing studio Bizarre Creations was bought by Activision and closed in 2011. That means that a new PGR title will have to be developed by a new studio, back in 2009 Microsoft was said to be on the lookout for a new studio but PGR5 was never mentioned again until now.Another title to make a return is GRID as Codemasters are apparently planning on a successor for the original title that was released back in the summer of 2008. Since then, Codemasters have very much focused on making the most of their Formula One license as well as the DiRT franchise, GRID 2 is rumored to be first shown on the E3 as well with the release possibly planned for 2013. GRiD was a great arcade racing game, running the same EVO engine as DiRT1.
Full list of all 60 Project Gotham Racing 4 achievements worth 1,250 gamerscore. It takes around 60-80 hours to unlock all of the achievements in the base game on Xbox 360. Project Gotham Racing's engines have been stalled since Activision bought developer Bizarre Creations in 2007. Is Microsoft warming up European development studios for a potential PGR revival?
It’s kindof the Shift series by codiesI would love to play a new version with updated physics and FFB!PGR4 I didn’t play that much as it was on the XBOX360 before I had the Fanatec wheel Racing with gamepad is a no go for me. It would be really nice to bring that kind of games to the PC with support for good wheelsThe thing that those games represent for me (hopefully others as well), isn’t realism as said by Nismo, but pure arcade fun, something I miss very much in the beautiful and accurate sims we’ll have this year. Are you serious? Grid’s AI had only one good thing about it, if you had a good team mate he could push the crap out of you and tailgate you like no one else could. In that respect yes the AI was good, but aside from that, the AI detection was crap, constantly ramming you and not caring, the car behavior during contact was sporadic and stupid at best. Don’t get me wrong.
I love GRID, it had some of the best AI aggression in the sense of pushing you to the limits, but when it came to detection and collisions, the game lacked a lot.I hope if they do make a GRID 2, that is fixed along with the driving on ice physics that allowed you to lose the rear end at 300kmh and catch it like nothing ever happened. While fun, it needs to become a bit more challenging and better in the physics department. Rest of the game was good though, especially team management and car livery creation. Loved that!.
It’s 10 years (ish) since Project Gotham Racing 4 hit shop shelves 10 whole years. In that time Bizarre and Microsoft parted ways, Bizarre folded and the PGR series has been left to rot with not even Xbox One compatibility. I own every PGR (with the exception of the mobile game) and MSR on my Dreamcast. Since I purchased a PS4 i’ve been playing and enjoying the (now) very awesome Driveclub. It has reminded me of PGR in some ways and I’ve pinned for a new PGR.
I’ve fired up my Xbox 360 to play PGR 3 and 4 and am convinced more than ever that PGR is head and shoulders the best racing game with representations of real cars around.I want a new PGR magnammit! To this end I’ve tweeted Xbox and contacted their YouTube page to ask them if they have any plans for future PGR titles and if not then I call upon them to sell PGR to another developer (I’d prefer Codemasters and the ex-Evolution team) so that PGR fans might enjoy future titles in the PGR series. However, I feel I need a more refined line of contact to petition. Please might you direct me to a proper channel to direct my plea, an e-mail address perhaps? Surely tweeting or messaging the blanket ‘Xbox’ tag is not the most effective way to direct my plea.To all PGR fans everywhere! Let us unite and let our voice be heard by Microsoft! If they do not wish to do anything with PGR then let someone else.
I’d like to see PGR back in the hands of a British developer and alive again. It is an important and still valid series, too important to see wasting away with an uncaring and unloving owner!I look forward to your help on this matter, thank you.GrahamGC: The best way is probably Twitter. Especially Major Nelson and maybe even Phil Spencer or other execs, as they do sometimes respond.
You could also try to set up a petition, but to be honest they never work. Reading the Inbox yesterday, I saw the letter wondering why Deus Ex: Mankind Divided hadn’t sold as well as expected. I’ve just gone back to The Witcher 3 after months of Bloodborne, and recently Deus Ex and Overwatch.First time the game really grabbed me was this morning, during the mission to find a dandelion. You go to a bar to hear a female minstrel play, the song she sings is a ballad about Geralt and Yennifer. It was one of the most stunning moments I ever remember in a game, it was up there with Red Dead Redemption’s music and Far Cry 3 when Vaaz gives the ‘Did I ever tell you the definition of insanity?’ speech. It is a song that I found very moving actually, it knocked spots of ‘The Dragonborn comes’ from Skyrim. The next surprise, and the biggest so far, was during Triss’ missions.
I chose to romance her, but when she turned her back on me I felt genuinely rejected, it wasn’t very nice. When she changed her mind and appeared behind me I was well chuffed, elated even up to a point.People, including myself, moan a lot about the state of our hobby at the moment, but there are still games out there that can invoke a genuine emotional response in the player. These are the games I always remember best and want to play again and again. I went back to Far Cry 3 twice after completing it for the first time and I think I’ve played Red Dead Redemption four times in total.I don’t see myself doing this with The Witcher 3, it’s just too vast of a game, but it will be one of the games I will always remember, possibly one of the richest I’ve ever played.Mitchell. Your story about flatlining VR sales made me think about another expensive peripheral. Throughout every generation of consoles since the original PlayStation the price of official controllers has always seemed excessive to me.A new Xbox One controller is nearly £45 from a well-known online retailer. I’ve seen second-hand pads going for £40 in trade-in shops. Is there much technology inside a controller?
Isn’t a gamepad just a bunch of sensors, all the real work is done by the console itself.I know the PlayStation 4 controller has a touchpad and the brilliant lightbar that everyone loves surely doesn’t come cheap, but is a new DualShock 4 actually worth £49.99?To give Sony some credit, all of my DualShocks have lasted well over the years, maybe that’s what you’re paying for, durability.msv858 (Twitter)GC: Essentially, yes. Which is why everyone got so upset when the DualShock analogue sticks started peeling. Loads of people seem to be getting worked up about the fact that the Modern Warfare remaster is only available if you buy the special edition of Infinite Warfare.
But does anyone seriously think it won’t be made available as a separate download within a few months of release?Activision may be hoping to fleece people as much as possible in the initial launch window, but once that’s died down there’s no way on earth they’ll miss out on the extra revenue they could get by making it a separate £15-20 download.I guess there’s the worry that other people would be levelled up if you wait a bit, but personally I’d rather wait a bit. That said though, Infinite Warfare is looking pretty good anyway!Sparky the Yak. One of my ‘D’oh!’ moments in gaming was.minor spoilers about Final Fantasy VII ahead. when I was playing Final Fantasy VII in early 2000 and I would always manage my saves by deleting old saves so I had enough space to save, which I had done with some of my Final Fantasy VII saves and other games. When I completed Final Fantasy VII I went back to explore the world more, but I couldn’t explore the world because I had a save beyond the point of no return at the end of the game but not before. So I had played for 100 hours roughly and I couldn’t get out of the pit at the end!
Soon the gruesome discovery becomes the toast of the infotainment world, and the new owner spies a golden opportunity to cash in on the media frenzy, until struggling addict and amputee John Wood recognizes his missing member and demands his own foot back. But when he bought a used grill at a North Carolina auction, the severed human foot he found among its ashes was not part of the deal. I couldn’tbelieve it! Do you know when you will use my d’oh! Idea for the weekend Hot Topic?Andrew J.GC: We’ve run that sort of one before, but it’s usually good for a laugh so we’ll add it to the list. Based on your interview for Sea Of Thieves I am still very confused as to what the game actually entails.
What I essentially have is:Go on a quest to find some hidden treasure with a group of three others.Attempt to take the treasure back to port to bank it, without having it stolen by other players.Use the treasure to upgrade your ship and avatar. (Upgrades sound more aesthetic than actual physical improvements). It sounds like an entire game based on the Dark Zone from The Division, albeit one in a much more interesting location. It also sounds like a fairly fun game to play based on various videos I have seen, but ultimately there must be more than what is in the demo to sustain the game beyond a few hours.Hopefully Rare are just being coy and have an expansive array of quests in the game but the fact they are also undecided on what features to actually include when the game launches is very worrying.PazJohnMitchGC: That’s a fairly reductive way of looking on it. ‘Go on a quest’ presumably encompasses the majority of the game, and we haven’t seen anything to do with that side of things yet. Just the basic mechanics of sailing a ship. The subject for this weekend’s Inbox was suggested by reader drlowdon, who asks what one feature has ruined an otherwise good game for you?It can be anything from a sudden spike in difficulty, to a problem with the controls, a badly designed level, an unwanted vehicle section or mini-game, poor storytelling or characters, irritating music and sound effects, or any other element of the game that you didn’t like.Is your complaint one that is widely shared or do you feel you’re the only one that feels that way?
How much did it affect your overall enjoyment and did the problem get fixed in any sequels or similar games?E-mail your comments to:The small printNew Inbox updates appear twice daily, every weekday morning and afternoon.
